About the college

The Jesuit Fathers founded Andhra Loyola College 9th December 1953. It is the fruit of almost ten years of relentless efforts of Bishop Ignatius Mummadi of Guntur for a Jesuit College at the suggestion of Sir Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy, the Founder and then Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, towards the end of October 1943, as he could not establish Andhra University in the intended Vijayawada area since the required land in this fertile region could not be acquired at that time within the stipulated time. The local leaders too formed themselves as Vijayawada Loyola College Sahaya Sangham to help the Jesuit Pioneers of the College. The first academic session of the College began on 22 July 1954.It started functioning as an Autonomous College from the Academic Year 1988-1989.The UGC awarded it the status of a "College with Potential for Excellence " in September 2004 in the first phase itself along with 46 other Colleges at all India level.
